Mental health problems

This film illustrates the difference between empathy and sympathy in a striking way. Empathy is empathy and is helpful to us when we are having a hard time. Sympathy is admittedly not negative, but does not involve emotional empathy, and is therefore not useful for those who have difficulty.

The video is summarized as follows on Youtube:

What is the best way to ease someone's pain and suffering? In this beautifully animated RSA Short, Dr Brené Brown reminds us that we can only create a genuine empathic connection if we are brave enough to really get in touch with our own fragilities.

In the film, we get a good illustration of what empathy actually means and why it is this - and not just sympathy - we need when we are having a hard time.
