This year, for the first time, the WHO recognized burnout as a diagnosis. - Being burnt out is like driving on even if the battery is empty. Preferably for months or years, according to expert.

This writes forskning.no. They write further:

- Burnout develops so gradually that many continue to push themselves much further than they should, says psychologist and researcher Aslak Hjeltnes in the last episode of "UiB Popviten" (at the University of Bergen, Norway).





Forskning.no also writes that burnout first became known in the 1970s. Then the psychologist Herbert J. Freudenberger described the conditions at a free clinic for drug addicts in New York.

He observed that the employees became tired, slightly angry and complained of, among other things, difficulty sleeping and headaches. - He believed that when there is a gap at work between what is expected of you and what you manage to give, then you are in danger of being burned out, says Hjeltnes.

Hjeltnes describes burnout in the following way:





- The criteria for the diagnosis are emotional exhaustion, an emotional distancing from work, in that one believes, for example, that no one at work cares about one, and reduced personal performance.

In the latest episode of UiB Popviten, Hjeltnes says that many jobs today are pure recipe for burnout.
